Henderson Bell PhD began her assignment as Assistant Professor of Emergency Management in 2022 at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, NC. Currently on campus, Bell is an Assistant Director of Undergraduate Senior Research. She is also on the Center for Teaching and Learning Advisory Committee and the Academic Standards and Credits Committee. She has 15 years of experience from the North Carolina State Emergency Management Division where she was Deputy Recovery Chief during her last four years with the Division. In this position, she collaborated with FEMA on major disasters in the State to rebuild infrastructures and provide housing for families displaced by natural disasters. She worked closely with community leaders to provide updates on policies and procedures for applying for grants to restore their communities. Bell received a Certificate in Artificial Intelligence-Machine Learning (AI-ML) earlier this year. Her goal is to research ways to integrate AI into managing airport disruptions and disaster response and recovery to expedite restoring communities to pre-disaster conditions.
